Henry Crowne: Paying the Price – Book Two

BREAKING PO!NT (They may break his body, never his spirit)

One financial terrorist in prison,

Two City bankers dead,

And … a $350 trillion banking scandal called LIBOR.

The suspicious suicide of two high-profile City bankers brings former QC Nancy Wu and Inspector Jonathan Pole together again in an investigation that implicates the UK government, the Bank of England, and London’s top banking executives.

As the true motive of the deaths continues to elude them, Nancy persuades a reluctant Inspector Pole to involve Henry Crowne. Once a brilliant financier, Henry is now serving a 30-year sentence in the obscure High Security Unit of HMP Belmarsh for financial terrorism.

A $350 trillion scandal is about to explode, rocking the fragile beginnings of the global recovery. Can the unlikely team unravel this complex puzzle before a dark plan destroys it all?

The characters were brilliantly portrayed, I never had to look up who was who. It was a real page turner. Impossible to put down. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Audrey Wallrock

In this highly entertaining story about the 2008 financial collapse, the author interweaves political intrigue with a fascinating insight into the darker machinations of London finance in general. The characters are carefully drawn and exciting as all of them have richer inner-lives which are slowly revealed as the plot unfolds. The entire narrative is suffused with artistic references which provide an imaginative counter-point to the cut-throat pragmatism of the city. I loved this book!

Airelle Perrouin

If you like Frederick Forsyth or Ken Follett you’ll really love this book. It’s a cracking good read, a brilliant, fast moving and ever-changing plot with an ending….not telling you ! You’ve got to read it. You won’t be able to put it down. It’s the first of a trilogy. Roll on the next one.

Rober Davenport

Not only does it provide a real insight into the world of investment banking for the uninitiated reader but also delivers a real page-turner of a thriller whose central character is as slippery and ambivalent in his way as Ripley. The dark side of high finance has rarely seemed so compelling. The plotting is tight and the various simmering sub-plots will undoubtedly bubble over into the next two books of an intended trilogy.

NJ Streitberger

A terribly gripping, exciting and realistic description of the high spheres of Finance, governed by humankind’s most basic instincts. There is a great variety of truly interesting characters in this book, which ends in the most surprising way. A wonderful page turner, can’t wait to read Freddie P Peters’ next!

Volker Lewis

Loved this book, a range of exciting and unique characters bringing the financial collapse alive with personal collapse and opportunities too.
Can’t wait to see what happens next to all of them!!

A Thorne

So impressed with this book, the story line is novel, interesting and brings the complexity that supports the realness of her characters. Racy without losing depth and leaves you wanting to know more not just of the future of the two main protagonists but their independent back story too. Looking forward to book no.2!

Saskia ter Woort

I could not put this book down. The interplay of money , art and politics produced a super tension and made me turn the pages . Highly entertaining – I can’t wait for the second book and then the third !
